How and when to feed:

Feed very young turtles twice a day, as much as they can eat in 5-10 minutes.

Turtles will only eat when they are in water. So to feed very small turtles, take them out of their aquarium and feed them in a plastic container like an empty 2 litre ice cream container. Place some water from the aquarium into the container – for very small turtles between 2 and 3cm of water will be fine.

Drop a frozen cube into the container and let it thaw for a minute or two. Then place the baby turtle in the container near the food. (It may take a day or two for your baby turtle to learn this is feeding time and eat the food.) After 5 to 10 minutes return your turtle to the aquarium, discarding the container water and any left over food.
Feeding your baby turtle like this helps keep your aquarium clean. But as your turtle grows bigger it will be better to be fed in its aquarium. Click here for information on how to feed bigger turtles.
